Topic – 2011 Missouri River Flood and Silver Jackets”

“Come see aerial photos of the 2011 flood on the Missouri River and learn how flood forecast inundation maps are becoming the Information Age’s tool for risk informed decision making.”

Speaker:    Brian Rast, P.E CFM, PMP

Mr. Rast has been a project manager and planner in the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Kansas City District, Planning Branch, since 2004.  He has worked as a hydraulic engineer and civil site development, since 1993.  He received a BS in Civil Engineering with a secondary major in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from Kansas State University in 1994.  In 2004 he earned his MS in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas.  He completed advanced training from the Institute for Water Resources’ Planning Associates Program in 2007.  He is a Professional Engineer in Kansas.  He is a Certified Floodplain Manager and a Project Management Professional.  He manages Civil Works water resource projects in flood risk management, ecosystem restoration, emergency streambank stabilization, and watershed planning.  As a Silver Jackets coordinator for the Institute for Water Resources, he is involved with state-level hazard mitigation in Kansas & Missouri, and under this program, he is conducting the Wildcat Creek Silver Jackets pilot project, which includes flood forecast inundation mapping with a partnership with other state and federal agencies.
