Where were you on
Thursday, February 18, 2010?
Approximately 700 Engineers attended the Engineers Week Luncheon at the Downtown
Marriott Muehlebach Tower, which is co-hosted by the Western Chapter of the
Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE) and the Eastern Chapter of the
Kansas Society of Professional Engineers (KSPE). The luncheon was attended by
Engineering Companies, Local Municipalities, Universities and Members of Other
Engineering Professional Associations.
National Engineers Week is celebrated each year during the third week of
February. This year, Blaine Leonard, National ASCE President serves as co-chair
of the National Engineers Week Committee. The purpose of Engineers Week is to
celebrate the many contributions of engineers. Most of the National E-Week
Programs focus on promoting student outreach, encouraging them to pursue a
career in Engineering.
Locally, the Engineers Week Luncheon honors many of its attendees. The student
competition top award winners in the MATHCOUNTS, Bridge Building and Future City
Competitions are recognized. Other award winners were announced. Stephanie
Hale from HNTB was named Engineer of the Year for the Eastern Chapter of KSPE
and Clint Mason from Harrington and Cortelyou was named Young Engineer of the
Year for the Western Chapter of MSPE.
After the awards ceremony, Dr. Joe Manous, from the US Army Corps of Engineers
in Virginia, provided a very motivating and powerful presentation, which kept
the audience riveted. The Corps of Engineers has provided Joe with several
career opportunities in his 28 years of service, which included serving as an
Academy Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point. His
message was intended to inspire Engineers to Give Back to their Profession.

There are several programs through the Kansas City Section of ASCE. I will
personally work with you to select the program that best fits your abilities and
your time. Being a mother of a 2-year-old, I completely understand and
appreciate everyone’s need for Work/Life Balance.
